William (Bradley)Henry Smith departed this life on Friday, July 24,2020 at his residence with his wife at his side.
William was born September 2,1937 in Bedford County,Virginia to the late Rosa Smith and Leslie Calloway.
He was preceded in death by his youngest son Steven, Brothers Melvin, Leslie and Willie.Sisters Clara Slaughter, Rosalie Thornhill,and Virginia Smith.
He was educated in the Bedford County School System, graduating from Susie G.Gibson High School.
At the tender age of 23, William would meet Shelby, the love of his life. They would marry 2 years later and remain inseparable for 57 years until his death.
He joined Holcomb Rock Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years.
William was a hard worker, who never complained.
He worked for Consumer Dornin-Adams and that is where the “Bradley “nickname would be adopted by his wife taken from the last name of the Company’s owner.
He would move on to work for the Lynchburg City School System, where he would retire in 2006.
Bradley enjoyed his retirement.
The first part he would spend time with his grandson in Atlanta, molding and pouring into him by waking up early with his packed lunch going off to daycare with him. The remainder he would enjoy cutting grass, painting the inside of his house every other week it would seem, playing cards with his cousins,doing crossword puzzles, buying scratch tickets and deciding where he would go for lunch with the gift cards he had received on special occasions.
The most important thing to Bradley was his family.
He never met a stranger.
In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memories, his oldest daughter Lishella Smith (Lynchburg,Va),son, Greg Smith (Richmond,Va),and youngest daughter Jennifer Carroll (Atlanta,Ga). 2 grandchildren Ava Smith (Richmond,Va), and McKinnon Bradley Carroll (Atlanta,Ga).
2 brothers,Henry Smith and Freddie Smith (Linda).
2 sisters,Margaret Evans, Nancy Smith and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
