Tracy Maureen Smith, 57, of Lynchburg, passed away Monday, March 15, 2021.

Tracy was born Sunday, June 02, 1963 in Halifax, VA, a daughter of the late John Walter Smith, Sr. and the late Lucy Dolores Cole Smith.

Tracy is survived by a sister, Connie Smith Stanek of Lynchburg, Aunt Freddie and Uncle Donald of Haw River North Carolina, nephews, Greg Smith and his wife Gail, of Johnson City, Tennessee, Ben Smith, of Bedford, and Scott Smith and his wife Zana of Bedford, a niece, Stacie Anderson and, Kevin, of Moneta, a great niece, Delaney Smith, great nephews, Ryan Smith, Eli Anderson, and Gabe Culbertson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother John W. Smith Jr. and sister in-law Vicki J. Smith
Tracy graduated from Jefferson Forest HS in 1981 and continued her education at Wilma Boyd Travel School in Pittsburgh, PA. She began her career in travel with Air Virginia in Lynchburg, and continued on to work as a travel agent for various agencies throughout her career in travel.  She began her career with Framatome in the Human Resource Department and then on to the Outage Training Department.

Tracy had many different interests and hobbies, but one of her favorites was shooting pool. Her team was “Fireball” at the Bedford Moose. Tracy’s mom loved the slot machines and like mother, like daughter, she loved the gambling machines at the Moose. It was double trouble for her when she played in an APA Tournament in Las Vegas. Cooking was another passion of Tracy’s. She enjoyed sharing the bounties of her cooking with her family and friends, especially Sunday dinners with her Bedford family. She savored all types of cuisine, from fine dining to Cheesy Westerns at the ”T. Room”. Prior to Covid-19 she savored many “girl outings”. In her “free time” she loved watching her TV shows. If two were on at the same, she would DVR them to watch later.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, March 19, 2021 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory.

Tracy raised thousands of dollars for The American Cancer Society in the last 30 years through Lynchburg’s Relay for Life. The American Cancer Society was a cause that was near and dear to her heart. She watched so many friends and family go through Cancer, some surviving and some not.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Relay for Life of Greater Lynchburg – SK #P4U8YT, PO Box 4110, Glen Allen, VA 23058. Please include wording “In memory of Tracy Maureen Smith” in memo line of the check

Tracy was a great friend, sister, aunt, and niece. Some sunshine will be missing from all her friends and family’s lives. “Go Rest High on That Mountain”, Tracy, for a short life that was well lived.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
