Thomas Edward “Tom” Epperly, 80, of Lynchburg, Virginia died on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at Lynchburg Health & Rehabilitation in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Born September 7, 1938, in Fayetteville, West Virginia he was a son of the late Albert Lee Epperly and the late Georgia Etta Pennington Epperly.

Tom’s life was dedicated to others though his service as a Military Policeman in the United States Army, serving in Korea. He continued the same love of community as a decorated Police Officer for the City of Lynchburg from May 30, 1963 until his retirement on September 30, 1994, after 31 years of service. He was also an active member of Moose Lodge #715 in Lynchburg, Virginia.

While Parkinson’s disease took away his ability to play golf, he never lost his love for the game. Tom was an avid bowler, softball player, and loved watching old westerns on television.  He wore his many pairs of cowboy boots with pride.

Left to mourn his loss are his daughter, Kimala Sue Epperly of Lynchburg, Virginia; his son, Thomas Scott Epperly of Largo, Florida.; brother, Larry Epperly, and his wife Catherine Epperly of Madison Heights, Virginia; his sister, Nancy Carol Lamb of Fayetteville, West Virginia; and brother, Ronald Lee Epperly of Oak Hill, West Virginia; a grandson, Daniel Jayce Epperly of Largo, Florida; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2018 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg with the Chaplain James S. Whitaker officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior. Full honors will be performed by the Lynchburg Police Department Honor Guard.
