Sonya Kaye Walker, 53, of Lynchburg, VA, went Home to be with the Lord, Thursday, August 30, 2018.  She was the loving wife of Mark Alan Walker for 21 years.

Born Friday, April 30, 1965 in Lynchburg, Virginia, Sonya was the daughter of the late Glenn Harper and the late Sylvia Jean Johnson Harper. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Debra Jean Harper.

Left to cherish her memory are her brothers, Steven Harper of Gulf Shores, AL, Kenneth Harper and his wife Linda of Lynchburg, Johnny Harper of Rustburg, and Glenn Harper Jr., of Flint MI; sister, Elizabeth (Beth) Harper of Rustburg and lifelong friend, Elizabeth Wilson of Goode.

Sonya attended Brookville High School where she graduated in 1984. She had a calm, quiet, confident relationship with her Savior Jesus Christ. Sonya loved autumn and the fall leaves and said one snowy Christmas Eve that “everyone should stop and enjoy the peaceful”; she loved all sports, especially college and pro football, and loved to cheer for the Clemson Tigers, the Tennessee Volunteers, and the Dallas Cowboys. She loved her family and friends dearly as well as her five cats and was a caring, loving, and patient wife. Sonya enjoyed the mountains, music, movies, Harry Potter books and films as well as Halloween and Christmas movies and she adored all Disney films. She enjoyed the little things in life like good coffee, pasta, chocolate, a good hot dog. Sonya never excluded anyone from her world and will be remembered for her kind and caring personality. She worked in travel, music retail, jewelry retail, and gift retail industries.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 04, 2018 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory.  A Celebration of Sonya’s life will follow at 7:00 PM. Interment will be Wednesday, September 5, 2018 in Oak Hill Memorial Park, 800 Truxton Drive, Kingsport TN 37660. To remember Sonya’s love for autumn, the family requests friends who attend the services to wear fall colors.
