Rosa Emogene “Mitzi” Duboise Thomas on May 13, 2021 went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Born in Jonesboro, AR, Mitzi grew up in Vanceboro, NC and met and married Carl at the University of Tennessee, where she played on the college basketball team.  Eventually they moved to Lynchburg, and then to Elon, VA.  Texas and Germany were later home before moving back to Elon.

Mitzi worked as a physical therapist at Lynchburg General Hospital and then at the Lynchburg Training School & Hospital, Madison Heights.

A devout Christian, she was a member of the Gideons Auxiliary, attended Women Aglow, and was a member of Elon Presbyterian Church where she played the organ for several years.  She loved music, including singing, the piano, the accordion, and the record player!

An adventurer, Mitzi was an airplane pilot (in the 40’s); and while raising three boys she was a backpacker, a boater, a fisherman, a cross-country skier, and a “motorcycle mama!”

She is predeceased by her husband Carl, son Ronald, and grandson Adam.  She is survived by sons Gary and Ken, daughters-in-law Joyce Thomas and Magda Thomas; grandchildren Nathan, Stacie, Mark, and Bridgette, and great-grandchildren Ashley and Asa.

Visitation will be Sunday, May 16, 2:00 pm at Elon Presbyterian Church, followed by a memorial service 3:30 pm at the Church.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her memory to Gideons International.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Madison Heights is assisting the family.
