Robert (Bob) E. Daly, 84, formerly of Somerville, MA and Randolph, NJ and now a resident of Smith Mountain Lake, VA died peacefully on March 15, 2021 surrounded by his wife and children.  He was the son of Joseph and Marie (Lane) Daly.  Bob graduated from Massachusetts’ College of Pharmacy in 1961 and went on to obtain his doctorate of analytical chemistry at Purdue University where he met his first wife, Judith Daly, née Brown, with whom he had two children, Carolyn and Bob.

Bob found employment at Warner Lambert/ Park Davis in Morris Plains, NJ.  He worked there for his entire career and rose to be the Sr. Director of Analytical Development R&D.  His fingerprints are on many of the products they produced before he retired in 1992. Judy and Bob lived in Randolph for over thirty years.  Bob went on to care for Judy though her struggle with cancer until she passed in 2000.  He then met Molly Costello of Montoursville, PA and the two were married in 2002.  They split their time between PA and NJ until moving to the Lake in 2006.  They travelled extensively through all seven continents and too many countries to count.

Bob loved playing softball and did so well into his 50s.  He loved Irish music, poetry, writing, and working on projects around his home.  He especially loved spending time with family and keeping up with their current events.  He was quiet, but had a great sense of humor and could be sarcastic.  If he poked fun at you, it meant he liked you.  He was a member of the Krewe of Carrollton in New Orleans and loved annual trips to ride in the parade and throw toys to the children.

He is survived by his wife, Molly Costello Daly, his daughter, Carolyn Daly, and granddaughter, Maureen dePoortere, son Robert (Bob) Daly and his wife, Tammy, grandsons Grant, Carter and Mason Daly.  He is survived by his brother Richard and predeceased by his brothers (Jack, Joseph, Paul) and sisters (Marie, Bernadette).

In light of COVID,  services will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday March 27, 2021 at Tharp Funeral Home in Bedford, VA with extended family and friends able to participate via video services.  In lieu of flowers, a donation in his memory can be made to the Moneta Rescue Squad (12646 N. Old Moneta Rd, Moneta, VA 24121) or a charity of your choice.
