Robert “Bob” Charles Dillard, 77, of Lynchburg, VA, went to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Tuesday, May 11, 2021.  He was the husband Lawana Parker Dillard for 22 incredible years.

Born Saturday, March 4, 1944 in Petersburg, VA, Robert was a son of the late James Thomas Dillard and the late Virginia Hedgebeth Dillard.

In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by two daughters, Robin Steele and her husband Lowell, and Mary (Beth) Somerville; three grandchildren, Darren Steele, Jessica Steele and Cara Somerville; a brother, Sonny and his wife Margaret; and two sisters, Joyce Branzelle, and Martha Church and her husband Lee; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, William Branzelle.

Robert was retired from England’s Stove Works and was a member of Tree of Life Ministries. He loved classic cars, traveling and fishing, he especially loved his fishing adventures with his nephew Robert “Tater”. Robert began each day in time with the Lord, including meditating on Psalm 91. He was a student of prophecy and reminded everyone to “keep their eyes on Israel” if they want to know what time it is. Above all this, it was Robert’s desire that no one depart this life apart from the salvation of Jesus Christ, and when given the opportunity to witness, he usually began with 1John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 17, 2021 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg.  A celebration of Robert’s life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with Pastor Mike Dodson and Rev. Johnny Hartless officiating.  Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Tree of Life Ministries (Lynchburg, Va), Grace Baptist Church (Charlottesville, Va) or Christians United for Israel (San Antonio, Tx).

To the Dillard family, we all know that Bob was a student of the word of God. Preaching the message of Salvation without ever hesitating. So now he has received his reward. His entrance to the kingdom of heaven to sit with his King. The Lord will bless you all and keep you and He will cause His face to shine upon you and bring you peace and comfort through these trying days .

Bob was a dear friend and our hearts are broken. We have so many dear memories with Bob. He loved his family very much. But most of all he loved the Lord. We are thankful we know where he is. Lawana, you and Bob were a great team and loved each other very much. God can only fill the emptiness in heart. Robin and Beth we knew you both when you were young. We witnessed first hand the love your dad had for you. We are praying for all of you as well as his brother and other loved ones. Bob will be greatly missed. Love and prayers, Fred & Sue Horsley
