Myrtle Mae Knopp, 96, Lynchburg, died Wednesday, December 18, 2019. She was the wife of the late Roland August Knopp for 35 years.

She was born in Lynchburg on September 19, 1923, a daughter of the late Frank Williams and the late June Bayne Williams. She lived in Baltimore for a large portion of her life, that’s where she met her husband and they became parents to their son John. She and Roland moved back to Lynchburg in 1983.

She was solid in her faith, she did not attend a church, but her faith was strong and she had ties to Clifford Baptist Church in Amherst, Virginia. No one that met her ever had an unkind word about her. All you had to do was meet her once to love her. You couldn’t get away from a doctor’s appointment without everyone flirting with her and telling her how young she looked for her age.

Myrtle had a very green thumb, she loved to spend time in her garden and caring for the many flowers in her home. She was famous for her fried chicken and coconut cake. She absolutely loved shopping on QVC and she didn’t care who knew it.

She is survived by her son John Knopp; her grandson, John Knopp, Jr.; her sister, Geri Cousart, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her sister Marguerite Williams Gottschall; her four brothers, Charles Williams, Frank Williams, Jr., Benny Williams, and Tunney E. Williams, Sr.; one-half-sister, Ethel; and three half-brothers, Lawrence, Lawson, and Russell.

A memorial service for Myrtle will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 2019 at Tharp Funeral home & Crematory, Lynchburg with the Rev. Freddy Williams officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior.

Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
