Betsy attended Emory & Henry College and easily established friendships that extended far beyond her classmates, even spanning other decades. She continued participating in events and volunteer opportunities at the college throughout her lifetime.
A career as an educator in the Campbell County Public Schools enabled Betsy to share her talents as teacher, mentor, and counselor to many students, as well as colleagues. She was a vital part of counselor education at many levels, and was honored to be selected Lynchburg Area Counselor of the Year in 2007. Her outstanding ability to listen, guide, and solve any situation helped to enhance wide-reaching friendship bonds with those whose lives she touched.
Timberlake United Methodist Church was another part of the community Betsy strongly supported. As a member, as well as being on the staff for several years, she exemplified her commitment and care for others through her unselfish dedication to programs of volunteer service and outreach.
Betsy enjoyed association with friends in many areas. From sports activities to beach trips to travel and celebrations with friends, her life reflected her love of people through the warmth and generosity she willingly supplied.
Betsy is survived by two brothers, Rhea, and wife, Pam, and Curtis, and wife, Sandy, both from Bluff City, Tennessee. Additionally, her family includes nieces and nephews Tracey Harkleroad Elkins, Brent Harkleroad, Amy Harkleroad Burke, Nathan Harkleroad, Natasha Harkleroad Jonas, and Jeremy Harkleroad.
