Lila Catherine Davis, 61, of Lynchburg, transitioned to her heavenly home on Sunday, February 16, 2020.  The youngest of five children, she was born on January 10, 1959, to the late James and Maggie Davis.

Lila was baptized on June 6, 1971 by the late Reverend Joseph D. Moore and joined Fifth Street Baptist Church.  As a child she attended Yoder Elementary, Dunbar, and E. C. Glass schools.  She worked at Central Virginia Training Center for over 20 years.

Lila was raised on Tinbridge Hill and was fondly known by many nicknames:  “Lila Cake”, “Liza”, “Lilou”, and “Baby Girl”.  Those that knew Lila, knew that her dogs Lady, Baby and Khloe were her pride and joy.  She trained and tended to their every need which resulted in them each having very distinct human-like personalities. She acquired the family trait and became a remarkable cook and enjoyed entertaining in her home.  With a knack for interior design and impeccable style she loved to dress and look good from her head to her toes. She enjoyed watching Dancing with the Stars and anything on the ID Channel.

Lila loved to travel and without hesitation packed her bags for cruises, road trips, and weekend getaways with her daughter. A vibrant and energetic person, she could wear many faces. She was kind and compassionate, but she could also set someone straight if the need arose.  Lila was most characterized as a loving and generous individual with big pretty eyes and a warm beautiful smile.

Lila was preceded in death by her sister Berta “Pam” Davis and leaves treasured memories to a special circle of family that includes her only daughter Januwaa Davis of Lynchburg; sister, Delmonica Humphries (Melvin); two brothers, James Davis Jr., and Jerome Davis (Melody) all of Lynchburg; many nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends, that will forever cherish her memory.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, February 21, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Fifth Street Baptist Church, 1007 Fifth Street, Lynchburg, VA 24502.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family.
