James Wesley Brunson, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, died January 27, 2021, at home at the age of 92, believing that if you live for the Lord, you die for the Lord. Born in Rock Hill, S.C., he was the son of William and Pearl Brasington Brunson and was the last surviving member of his family.
As a young man, Jim volunteered to serve in the U.S. Air Force, after which he graduated from Clemson University and began his electrical engineering career as a Communications Specialist with GE. He traveled extensively around the world with GE. After retirement, he worked as a consultant for CTA.
Jim was a multi-talented individual and developed all of his natural skills. He was a trained musician who sang for many years in the Choir of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and as a tenor soloist for musical groups in the area. He mastered his architectural skills, building many beautiful and useful projects in his home. With his intense interest in gardening and plants, he developed his landscaping skills to beautify his hone and community.
Jim adopted a whole family when he married Elizabeth Jamerson Brown in 1971, and that family has been blessed to have this fine gentlemen to look up to and emulate. His wife of 49 years, Liz, survives him along with two sons, Lea Brunson (Kim) of Florida; Will Brunson (Lynn) of Forest; and his daughter, Nan Brunson Carmack (Todd Crytser) of Richmond. Eight grandchildren survive him, two girls, Danielle and Taylor Brunson, and six boys, Ryan, Zachary, Jacob and Wyatt Brunson, and Ford and Will Carmack. One daughter, Beth Brunson, and an infant grandson, Joshua, preceded him in death.
An outdoor memorial service will be held at the Columbarium of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, on Sunday, February 14 at 1 pm. Friends and family are welcome to participate and distance themselves on the adjoining church lawn. In case of inclement weather, the service will be in the sanctuary, observing distancing requirements.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 605 Clay Street, Lynchburg VA 24504 or the Friends of Campbell County Animal Control. 185 Greendale Drive, Rustburg VA 24588.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
