Hazel Campbell Beard, 84, of Lynchburg, died Saturday, November 24, 2018 at her home. She was the wife of Clyde Beard for 65 years.

Born February 4, 1934 in Amherst County she was a daughter of the late Letcher Thomas Campbell and the late Sarah Bradley Campbell. Hazel was preceded in death by a son Jerry Beard; a great-grandchild, Madison Mullen; brothers, Harry Campbell and Homer Campbell; and her sisters, Irene Beard and Hilda Lloyd.

She was a very loving and giving person. She enjoyed cooking, family gatherings, loved music, and her church. She was retired from Hardees and was a member of Leawood Baptist Church. She was devoted to her family and her greatest joy were her children and grandchildren. But, most of all she loved her husband Clyde Beard , married 65 years, and met when she was just a child. It was an 80 year love affair!

In addition to her husband she is survived by her daughter Linda Beard and fiancé Ricky; sons, Kenneth Beard (Becky) and Glenn Beard (Brenda); grandchildren, Kimberly Spears, Kerri Graber, Jeff Beard, Sean Dunn and Derek Beard; great-grandchildren, Amber Spears, Dakota Spears, Kiley Graber and Blane Graber; and a great great-grandchild, Aurora Campbell.

A funeral service for Hazel will be conducted on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, 2 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with Rev. Mark Cheatham officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior. Interment will follow the service in Allwood Cemetery (El Bethel Cemetery) 925 Buffalo Springs Turnpike, Amherst, VA 24521.

In addition to flowers memorial contribuions may be made to Leawood Baptist Church, 345 Munford Street, Lynchburg, VA 24501.
