George Slade, 77, passed away in Lynchburg, Virginia on Sunday, October 10, 2021, with his immediate family by his side.

At his request, a private service will be held.

He was born in Savannah, Georgia in 1944.  George liked hunting & fishing and was an avid sports car enthusiast.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandsons.

Mr. Slade served honorably 26 years in the United States Navy, Nuclear Submarine Service retiring as a Lieutenant Commander.  He served under Admiral Hyman G. Rickover, known as the “Father of the Nuclear Navy.”

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy Slade; son, Kevin (Tammy) Slade and daughter, Denise Turner, and three grandsons, Samuel Slade, and Baxter & Gunther Ewers.

Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg is assisting the family.
