Elizabeth Joann Fitzgerald, 88, of Lynchburg went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born to Wade and Alice Sager on January 8, 1933, in Piedmont, West Virginia. She was the widow of Dr. Russell G. Fitzgerald.
She worked alongside her husband at Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools. She also served many years at Liberty Home Bible Institute.
Surviving are her son, Brad Fitzgerald (Ruth); daughter, Gwen Riggleman (Newton); grandchildren, Erin Fitzgerald, Skye Riggleman, Kara & Kayla Riggleman; one great-grandchild, Jensen; brother, Bob Sager (Becky).
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her Savior Jesus Christ and her family dearly.
The family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to Senior Independence Hospice, especially Kelly, Tabitha, Jennifer, Jasmine, Bill and Skyelar.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Russell G. Fitzgerald; grandson, Bradley Fitzgerald; sisters, Doris Hadley, Lorraine Stevenson and Nancy Niland.
A graveside service will be held Friday, August 27, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Virginia Memorial Park.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
