Dr. C.Daniel Kim, 98, of Lynchburg went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Friday, July 3, 2020.

Dr. Kim was born on August 10, 1921 in Jeong-ju, Korea. He married his late wife, Elizabeth Suksoon Kim, in 1941. With loss of his loving and devoted wife in 2003, he later married Mary Choonshin Kim in 2007. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-great-grandfather.

In addition to his wife Mary, Dr.Kim is survived by his two sons and two daughters: WonOk, John and wife, Jennie, Esther and husband, WookHyoun Kim, and Paul and wife, ChungWha; ten grandchildren: Sarah and husband, Alan Rafferty, Andrew and wife, Judy, David and wife, Hayeun, Marian and husband, Kelvin Mak, Stephen and wife, Colleen, Mathew, Janet and husband, Paul Matuszewski, YoungDuk, YoungSook, and YoungSil; and eight great-grandchildren: Clara, Micah, Alastair, Chloe, Carter, Lucas, Alice and Adeline.

Dr. Kim graduated from Osan High School in Jeong-ju and received a BA in Philosophy from YoungNam University. He went on to Presbyterian Seminary in Korea, and then attained a Master’s from New York Biblical Seminary and a Doctorate from Dallas Theological Seminary.

Dr. Kim pastored at numerous churches in Korea and in the U.S. They include places in Taegu, Korea, Albany, New York, Missoula, Montana, Minneapolis, Roanoke, Blacksburg, and Lynchburg, Virginia. He taught at Central Baptist Seminary in Minneapolis for twelve years, and 37 years at Liberty Baptist Seminary. He retired at the age of 95 with the honor of Distinguished Emeritus Professor.

Dr. Kim was a tireless champion for Christ. He had unwavering zeal for the Gospel to be spread throughout the world. He has also a special love for the suffering people of North Korea. He was a true servant of his Lord and Savior and always put other’s needs first before his own.

There will be no family night, but friends and others may come by Tharp Funeral Home to view the body on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Due to the pandemic, Farewell Services will be held primarily with family members on Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. The service will be broadcast online. A graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Virginia Memorial Park, Forest, Va.
