DeSean Jamal Gentry “Gent”, 29, of Madison Heights, departed this life on Sunday, November 10, 2019. He was born in Lynchburg, Virginia on August 23, 1990.

DeSean could accomplish anything he put his mind to. He started his Christian journey at Galilee Baptist Church in Gladstone, Virginia. He graduated from Amherst County High School and worked for Mohawk in Glasgow, Virginia. DeSean was an adamant sports fan with a love for Kansas City Chiefs and UNC basketball. His favorite sports icon was LeBron James. On many weekends you could find him playing corn hole, cards, basketball, fishing, or partying with family and friends. DeSean was the life of the party and his smile was so contagious that it would brighten any room he walked into. His biggest accomplishment in life was being a father to his pride and joy.

DeSean leaves behind to cherish his memories his beloved parents, Annelida and Kelvin Carter and Woodrow Gentry Jr.; grandparents, Gloria Spinner, Marie Gentry, Carol and Julia Sandidge; his son, Bryce Gentry; brother, Deamein Carter (Lore’l); brotherly-cousin, Demitri Carter (Jessica); aunts, Silisa Kyle (Edwin), Evangeline Waugh (Leon), Dwana Thornton (Troy), Georgette Carter (Kenneth), Linda Turner (Otis), Brenda Haley (Spencer), Sally Tisdale (Anthony); uncles, Jeff Smith, Reuben Smith, Phillip Carter, Donnie Carter (Regina), Kenneth Carter (Georgette), Carol Sandidge Jr. (Marilyn), Michael Sandidge (Iris), Clarence Carter (Angie), Isaiah Spinner; special friend, Sierra Stevens; and a host of devoted cousins, other relatives, and numerous friends.

DeSean was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Woodrow Gentry Sr. and George Spinner; two uncles, Alvin Gentry and Eddie Smith; and his aunt, Michelle Lewis.

A celebration of DeSean’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 18, 2019 at Tree of Life Ministries with the Rev. M.D. Mays and the Rev. Mark McCoy officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior. Interment will follow the service at Galilee Baptist Church Cemetery, 180 Galilee Road, Gladstone, Virginia 24553.

DeSean will lie in repose at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg on Sunday, November 17, 2019 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The family invites everyone to join them for a repass following the interment at the Madison Heights Ruritan Club, 270 Mays Street, Madison Heights, Virginia 24572. 

Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory of Lynchburg is assisting the family.
