Caswell Kincaid (Red) Turpin, 91, of Bedford, passed away peacefully at home with his family by side, on January 30, 2022. He was born in Bedford on March 1, 1930. He was the son of the late Otha William Turpin and Mary Lowrey Turpin. He was preceded in death by his three sisters, Nancy M. Perella, Dorothy L. Harlow and Jane L. Whisenhunt.
He is survived by his two daughters, Bonnie Overstreet (with whom he lived with), Pam Noel, and his only granddaughter, Morgan Nichols Gross and husband, John.
Caswell was known to many as “Red”, and to his granddaughter by “Cowpoppy”, who he thought the world of.
Caswell grew up on a small farm in Bedford and took over the farming business at a young age. He had a love for raising cows, and harvesting hay, and growing vegetable gardens. He was happiest when his cows safely had their cows and growing vegetables to give out to others he knew.
He worked for Laughon and Johnson Road construction for many years. Then he went into the logging business on his own. He logged for a few years then went to work at Hilltop Lumber yard which is now Turman Forest Products. He found a job he loved and enjoyed being around his co-workers. He picked and joked with them and gave a few of them nicknames. He worked there until his health failed. He resorted back to his love of taking care of his cows and gardening.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Thursday, February 3, 2022, at Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. John Boyles. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford.
