Ashby Wade May, 87, of Forest, a true southern gentleman, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 22, 2021. He was deeply loved by his wife of 30 years, Donna Thompson May who survives him.

Born July 2, 1933, he was the cherished and only child of the late E. Dawson and Ruth Padgett May. He attended and was a member of the Core of Cadets at Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech), and upheld the philosophy Ut Prosim.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons: Ashby Wade May, Jr. of Roanoke, Michael B. May of Lynchburg, VA, Chad Perkins of Lynchburg, and Wallace (Trey) Clark, III of Forest, VA, two daughters: Linda May St John (David) of Roswell, GA, and Marjorie Graham of Richmond, VA, six grandchildren: Dawson St. John, Logan St John, Nathan May, Alex Gilley, Landon Perkins, and Hannah Perkins, and two great grandsons.

As the retired President and Owner of May Bros, Inc. he transformed the landscape in the community into viable and productive properties and left a lasting legacy of friendship and servitude in the community. Ashby could fix anything, was always ready to lend a helping hand and he was a friend to many.

Ashby was a Charter Member and former Chief of the Forest Volunteer Fire Department, a Past Master of Forest Masonic Lodge #245, Past Master of Marshall Lodge #39, 32nd Degree Mason of the Valley of Lynchburg Orient of Virginia, Lynchburg Shrine Club #214 Oriental Band and a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church.

A Graveside service accompanied by Masonic Rites will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Fort Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Jonathan Falwell officiating. Social distancing guidelines will be observed at the service.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Forest Masonic Lodge #245, 1172 Majestic Oaks Dr. Forest, VA  24551 , Forest Volunteer Fire Dept, 1645 Thomas Jefferson Rd, Forest, VA 24551 or Thomas Road Baptist Church 1 Mountain View Rd, Lynchburg, VA 24502
