Anna Marie Latimer, 95, of Bedford, VA, passed away February 7, 2021, after months of declining health.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Kate Latimer, sister Jean Latimer Nance, and brother Bobby Latimer, as well as nephew Brooks Nance and niece Gayle Nance.

She is survived by nephew David (Emmy) Latimer and sister-in-law Frankie Latimer of Bedford, nieces Laurel (Mark) Holder of Roanoke and Patricia (Paul) Neuroth of Charlottesville.  She also leaves behind great nephews, great nieces, a great-great nephew and several cousins.

Anna, like many women in the 1940s, supported the War effort.  Upon high school graduation, she moved from Bedford to Washington, D.C., where she would make a 31-year career, working for the U.S. Government (primarily the Department of Labor). She lived in Maryland during those years with two cats, which she adored.  After retiring in 1975, she returned to Bedford, first living on Smith Mountain Lake, then moving closer to town, and later residing at The Elks Home (English Meadows).

During healthier years, Anna enjoyed travel, especially beach trips with Jean’s family and RV trips across America with Bobby and Frankie. She loved to play cards and board games and was known for her uncanny luck. She also was a lifelong Redskins fan.

Tharp Funeral Home in Bedford is handling arrangements. The family will have a private graveside service.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bedford Hospice or the National D-Day Memorial.
